PRESS RELEASE | The Marine Measurement Forum (MMF70), hosted by Ocean Business, opened its doors today at the UK’s Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium, welcoming the marine measurement community for a full day of technical insight, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.
MMF70 brought together professionals from across marine science, technology, and engineering under the theme “Advancing Marine Measurement for a Changing Ocean”, focusing on innovation, best practice, and emerging challenges in marine sensing and data collection.
The programme featured a strong line-up of expert speakers from industry, academia. MMF70’s speakers delivered a compelling and novel range of sessions under themes that reflect the convergence of ocean and orbital observation, encouraged open discussion and the sharing of real-world experience, reinforcing MMF’s reputation as a forum driven by the community, for the community, including:
Space-enabled maritime intelligence exploring how satellite and space-based technologies are transforming maritime data acquisition and analysis.
Novel methods in marine science and surveillance groundbreaking approaches to understanding and monitoring our oceans.
Next-generation autonomous platforms spotlighting advances in autonomous vehicles, robotics and remote sensing in marine environments.
Attendance was strong, with representatives from organisations including MSE International, European Space Agency (ESA), Fugro, Hydro Survey, Teledyne Valeport, Kongsberg Maritime, Sonardyne, National Oceanography Centre, British Geological Survey, RS Aqua, SMI, UK Hydrographic Office, and leading universities and research institutes.
The programme provided delegates with valuable opportunities to engage with peers and industry leaders, exchange ideas, and address shared measurement challenges through expert presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, and structured and informal discussion periods.
Speaking on the day, the organisers highlighted the continued importance of MMF as a neutral platform for collaboration across the marine measurement sector, supporting innovation and strengthening connections between technology developers, end users, and researchers.
Cheri Arvonio, Director of Ocean Business, which hosted this edition, comments: “MMF has delivered a valuable platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange. We have seen insightful presentations, meaningful discussion, combined with strong attendance from industry and academia, reinforcing the importance of MMF in driving progress across all aspects of marine measurement.”
Looking ahead, it was also announced that the next edition, MMF71, will be hosted by Teledyne Valeport on 1 July 2026 in Devon, UK, continuing the forum’s long-standing commitment to rotating hosts and maintaining strong industry engagement.

NOTES FOR EDITORS
About the Marine Measurement Forum
The Marine Measurement Forum (MMF) is a long-standing, not-for-profit initiative that has served as a focal point for the marine measurement community for more than 70 editions, convening twice each year.
Established in 1983, MMF provides a neutral and informal UK-based forum for the exchange of ideas, expertise, and emerging developments across the full spectrum of marine measurement. Each edition features a carefully curated programme of sessions centred on themes that promote knowledge sharing, showcase new technologies, and encourage collaboration between industry and academia.
MMF is guided by a voluntary Steering Committee comprising Martin Stemp (RS Aqua), Aidan Thorn (Sonardyne), Emma Johnson (SMI), Philip Bishop (National Oceanography Centre), and Hannah Kent Colls (Watermark Communications).
The next edition, MMF71, will be hosted by Teledyne Valeport on 1 July 2026 in Devon. To discover more about this unique series of events, please visit www.marinemeasurementforum.com.
