Since its inception, the not-for-profit Marine Measurement Forum (MMF) has been a cornerstone of collaboration within the UK’s marine science, survey, and technology community.
Each event is hosted by a different organisation, reflecting the diversity of expertise and enthusiasm within the sector. As we look back, it's clear that the MMF has been shaped by an incredible range of contributors.
In more recent years, the MMF has been proudly hosted by OceanWise, HydroSurv, the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Aquatec Group, RS AQUA, Sonardyne International Ltd, and FUGRO.
Other notable hosts include the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington, iXblue, The Hydrographic Society UK (THS UK), and Plymouth Marine Laboratory. We’ve also seen support from HR Wallingford, ASV Ltd, Xylem Analytics UK, and MacArtney, and THSUK.
Further back, events were hosted by the Partrac Group, Chelsea Technologies, Planet Ocean, the Association of Marine Scientific Industries (AMSI), CodaOctopus, and Gardline, alongside previous appearances by Sonardyne, IOSj/IE, and Fugro-GEOS.
Regular supporters such as OSIL, RS AQUA, the University of Sussex, Nortek UK, Quinetiq, and OTM have also played key roles in MMF history. Other hosts have included Compass Hydro, GEOS, TSS, IOSJ, and Valeport, who have been long-standing contributors to the forum.
Looking further back, companies such as WS Ocean, Hydrosphere, Wallace Evans, JSD Services, and Bullard Labs have all taken the lead in organising events.
Academic and institutional hosts have included SOC, Birmingham University, and HR Wallingford, with multiple returns from WS Ocean, IOS, and NOC over the years. Earlier hosts also include Mertech, Huntings Surveys, Wimpol, BMT, and once again, Valeport, who helped support some of the very first MMF events.
A Legacy of Collaboration
The success of the Marine Measurement Forum is due in no small part to the generosity and leadership of these hosting organisations. Each event has helped foster innovation, dialogue, and professional connection in the marine sector. As we look to the future, we continue to invite new hosts to carry forward the MMF legacy.
